Nominations for ACHNE Leadership Positions

Nominating and Election Process:

Completed nomination materials are due Monday, January 16, 2017. Self-nomination is encouraged.

Upon approval by the ACHNE Board of Directors, the Nominating Committee will prepare a ballot and accompanying materials. Electronic balloting shall be open to all eligible members at least 90 days in advance of the Annual Institute membership meeting. The election period shall be of at least four (4) weeks duration but no more than six (6) weeks duration. Election is by majority vote as described in the bylaws.

Post-election notification of all candidates shall be made no later than two (2) weeks after the election results are reported to the President of the Association. Newly elected officers shall be announced at the Annual Membership Meeting. The term of office for those elected shall begin at the close of the annual meeting at which they were elected.

Nomination materials include:

  1. Completed consent to serve form;
  2. Current CV; and
  3. Brief (limit of 250-300 words) campaign statement to be used on the ballot. The campaign statement should include a brief summary of your research experiences, your prior leadership experiences, and your reasons for seeking a leadership position in ACHNE.

If selected by the Nominating Committee to appear on the ballot, you will be asked to provide a picture to accompany your campaign statement on the electronic ballot.

ACHNE Leadership Position Descriptions:

Vice-President: The Vice President shall serve as the Chairperson of the Program Committee. It shall be the responsibility of the Program Committee to obtain program ideas from the Association membership regarding program plans to be implemented by the Committee throughout the year.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in providing direction and structure for organizational activities through active participation on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
  2. Maintains regular contact with the President to keep current on organizational issues and up-date President on program activities.
  3. Directs program planning for the organization:
    1. Serves as the chairperson of the Program Committee.
    2. Acts as a liaison between the Association and the PHN Section program chairperson for APHA Coordinates and makes room reservations for midyear meeting of Board of Directors at APHA in conjunction with the PHN Section chairperson.
    3. Cooperates with the Annual Institute’s Local Arrangements Committee in developing a relevant educational program.
    4. Explores new opportunities for program development.
    5. Participates in long-range planning for conference/convention programming.
    6. Submits relevant information regarding up-coming events to the Editor of the Newsletter.
    7. Notifies membership of program activities during Annual Membership Meeting and midyear meeting at APHA.
  4. Participates in the orientation of the newly elected Vice President.
  5. Serves on appropriate committees or task forces, which are established to address current and future organizational issues.
  6. Assembles relevant documents and materials for collection by Archivist after the Annual Membership Meeting.
  7. Performs other duties as identified by the President.

Eligibility: Four (4) years as ACHNE member, former ACHNE committee member or office holder, demonstrated evidence of program planning ability.


Secretary:  It shall be the duty of the Secretary to maintain records of the Association’s proceedings and resolutions; to issue notice of meetings; to arrange details of meetings that are not otherwise delegated to others; and to perform in general functions commonly identified with such office.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in providing directions and structure for organizational activities through active participation on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
  2. Acts as recorder at all Board of Directors and Executive Committee meetings as well as yearly membership meetings.
  3. Records any official actions taken by the Executive Committee or Board of Directors between scheduled meetings, such as e-mail votes, including these in the minutes of the next official meeting.
  4. Distributes minutes to all members of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Management Company and identified others.
  5. Prepares summary of executive decisions from Board of Directors and Executive Committee for distribution to Board of Directors and general Membership via the members only website.
  6. Maintains official minutes and other correspondence of the Association.
  7. Provides the management company with official minutes and other correspondence of the Association.
  8. Serves as resource for all Association members.
  9. Participates in the orientation of the newly elected Secretary.
  10. Serves on appropriate committees or task forces.
  11. Assembles relevant official documents and materials, including all minutes with attachments and official correspondence, provides to incoming Secretary and sends to the Archives at the Barbara Bates Center after the Annual Membership Meeting; may be sent digitally to current Archives Committee chair:

  12. Performs other duties as identified by the President.

Eligibility: Three (3) years as ACHNE member, former ACHNE committee member or office holder.


Members-at-Large: The Members-at-Large serve as the contact person for the members of the ACHNE regions. The Members-at-Large serve on the Board of Directors and as the Membership Committee. The general Member-at-Large serves as the Chairperson of the Membership Committee.

Responsibilities:

  1. Monitoring the membership activities of the organization and submitting to the Executive Committee as requested.
  2. Writing a column for each ACHNE Newsletter including a member highlight.
  3. Actively recruiting members at all ACHNE meetings and at other nursing organization meetings.
  4. Developing and recommending to the Board of Directors a plan of action for recruitment and retention of members.
  5. Preparing written reports for the Executive Committee meetings, Annual meeting, and midyear Board of Directors meeting.
  6. Creating materials necessary for the recruitment and retention of members as needed, approved, and budgeted.
  7. Monitoring and recommending changes in member benefits.
  8. Maintaining a list of graduate PHN programs for the ACHNE website.
  9. Assembling relevant documents and materials for collection by Archivist after the Annual Membership Meeting.

Open Regional At-Large Member Positions (1 per region)

Northern: Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont.

Mid-West: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Wisconsin.

General Member-at-large: Serves as Membership Committee Chair (1)

Eligibility: One (1) year ACHNE member


Nominating Committee: It shall be the responsibility of the Nominating Committee to propose candidates for the positions of President, President-Elect, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Members-at-large, and Chairperson for the Nominating Committee, and Nominating Committee members. The Nominating Committee shall prepare the ballot to the membership.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conducts Fall call for nominations for officers.
  2. Compiles nominations and completes ballot for spring elections.
  3. Upon return of ballots, tallies results and notifies the Association President.
  4. Notifies all nominees of the election results.
  5. Notifies the Board of Directors of Election results at the Spring Board meeting.
  6. Notifies ACHNE members of election results at a time determined by the Association President (either via electronic means and/or in person at the Annual Business Meeting.
  7. Participates in the orientation of the newly elected Chairperson-elect.
  8. Assembles relevant documents and materials for collection by Archivist after the Annual Membership Meeting.
  9. Performs other duties as identified by the President.

Eligibility: Two (2) years as ACHNE member.
