EPA May 9 Webinar: Which Came First? The Bed or the Bug? - Bed Bugs 201

Message: Which Came First? The Bed or the Bug? - Bed Bugs 201   EPA Webinar
Tuesday, May 9, 2017 01:00 PM CDT - 02:30 PM CDT

As bed bugs hitchhike across the country, they increasingly find their way into school residence halls, childcare centers, and multi-family dwellings. In this webinar, we will touch on our history with bed bugs and explore in detail recent improvements in bed bug detection, monitoring, and control technologies.

Our presenters will discuss the importance of an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach to bed bugs and the latest control strategies for a variety of sensitive environments. IPM is an approach that uses a hierarchy of practices, including education, pest exclusion, sanitation, biological controls, mechanical methods, and chemical options, to reduce unnecessary pesticide exposure while providing sustainable bed bug control.

Learn what you should and should not do when dealing with bed bugs, as well as issues you should be aware of. We'll provide you with suggestions for both interviewing pest management professionals and setting expectations for their services. Join us as we discuss this next level of IPM tactics for bed bug management in your community.

Space is limited to the first 1,000 to attend. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with information on how to join the webinar.

Hi ACHNE! I wanted to contribute a resource that I hope will be of use to you and your readers! MPH@GW, the online MPH program from The Milken Institute School of Public Health at The George Washington University, recently published a piece on the development of vaccines. It includes several small graphics about: -the differences between immunization and vaccination -the phases of vaccine development -the stakeholders in vaccine production We hope that these resources will help shed some light on how detailed and regulated the process of vaccine development really is. Would you be interested in using any of these resources on your website or social media pages? Please let me know, and I would be happy to provide you with more context around the piece, or the JPEGs of the graphics! Thanks in advance! BSN programs to pilot a vignette evaluating student competence using the QC competencies

SSwider on 03/10/2017
Colleagues,  AACN has been collaborating with CDC for the past 4 years to strengthen nursing education in public and population health. One of the endeavors we are engaged in is to begin to develop mechanisms to evaluate whether our teaching strategies are helping our students gain knowledge and skills in PHN, as measured by the QC competencies for generalist practice. To that end, we have developed a short vignette, with questions to assess student competency in a few key areas. We want to pilot this vignette in 4-5 schools, with traditional BSN programs. We need 20 students at the early stages of their nursing program, and 20 students just before graduation, from each program. We will be collecting data in the next 4 weeks. If you are interested in your school's participation, please contact Susan Swider, PhD, APHN-BC, FAAN at Thanks for considering. To view the thread go to
